Coast Guard, county agencies suspend search for missing snorkeler in Kauai waters

LIHUE (HawaiiNewsNow) – The U.S. Coast Guard along with county crews have suspended their efforts in the search for an Arizona visitor who went missing while snorkeling off Anini Beach on Sunday.
So far, there has been no sign of the 59-year-old man.
Coast Guard officials ended their search at noon Wednesday. They were one of multiple agencies trying to locate the individual. Kauai Fire Department and Kauai Ocean Safety Department were also engaged.
“It’s never easy when we suspend the search for a missing swimmer, and when we cannot provide complete closure for someone’s family. Everyone involved worked tirelessly for this reason, and our sincere condolences are with the man’s family,” said Kaua’i Fire Chief Michael Gibson.
“We are truly grateful for the efforts of all the agencies and volunteers who participated in the search,” said KPD Assistant Chief Kalani Ke. “Our hearts are with the missing person’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and we appreciate the support of everyone involved.”
The snorkeler was last seen wearing pinkish-red board shorts, a black snorkel with orange tip, and black water shoes.
